A checklist before requesting contract signatures

Avoid draft documents, incorrect recipients and confusing versions when you create a PDF signature request.

Make one final document

Collect the agreement and any required attachments before creating a signature request. Convert editable documents to PDF and review the result. Resolve open comments, placeholder dates and missing names in the source first.

If you merge several PDFs into one packet, check page order and ensure the contract's attachment references match the packet. Prepare the document before signing; a revised document may need a new request.

Decide who needs to sign

Sign PDF and Request signatures serve different jobs. Sign PDF adds your own signature. Request signatures starts a workflow for another person. Use a request when a client or colleague needs to act rather than emailing them a copy with your signature already added.

For a consulting agreement, check the client's authorized signer's name and email address. Do not assume the person who discussed the project is also the person who should sign.

Review the request before sending

Sign in and open Request signatures. Choose the final PDF, enter the recipient information and complete the signing setup shown on screen. Use a descriptive document title so the recipient can identify the agreement.

Double-check email spelling and the document's signature areas. An incorrect address can delay the agreement or send the invitation to the wrong person. Tell the intended recipient what document to expect through your normal communication channel.

Keep a clear record of the outcome

Review the request in your signing area and retain the completed PDF when it is available. Open the final copy to confirm it is the expected agreement. Keep it alongside any relevant source documents and project records.

A request is a document workflow, not a promise that every document type or jurisdiction accepts the same electronic signature. Follow the receiving organization's instructions when it specifies another method, and resolve those requirements before sending invitations.
